Logar Town Hall Meeting On Public Engagement in National Budgeting

The government held an advisory meeting with Logarpeople to include the needs of the province in national budgeting of FY-1400 held Continental HotelonSep 03, 2020.

The meeting was attended by General Director of Budget at the Ministry of Finance, Governor of Logar, Provincial Council members, Ulema Council representatives of, civil society, and a number of Logar residents.

"We appreciate the initiative of the Ministry of Finance to involve people in the budgeting process. It is a good initiative and a good start through which people can share their development needs and priorities with the government and the government takes it into account based on the financial facilities and budget ceiling” said Mohammad AjmalShahpoor, Logar Governor.

He added that Logar has the highest budget absorption in agriculture sector and natural resources; he asked the Ministry of Finance to pay attention to these sectors in the budget for the next fiscal year.

“In addition to large national projects for Logar province, the national budget considers 75.3 million Afghanis for small and public utility projects in the next fiscal year.We hope that the people of Logar share their needs and priorities with us, taking into account the ceiling, so that we can include these needs into the budget plan for the next fiscal year," said Mr. Sayed Nasir Ahmad, Director General of Budget at the Ministry of Finance.

“We set the ceiling based on population and poverty rate in each province; the aim of this meeting with the people is to involve them in the budgeting process and strengthen local governance,” he added.

At the end, a presentation was delivered by the technical team of the Ministry of Finance in which the necessary information was provided to the participants. Opinions, suggestions, and needs of people were heard and noted, and their questions were answered by the Director General of Budget of the Ministry of Finance.
