Acting Minister of Finance and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Discuss Economic Issues

On an official visit H.E. Prof. Mohammad HumayonQayoumi, Acting Minister of Finance and Chief Advisor on Infrastructure Affairs to H.E. President Ghani, met with Canadian Government senior officials, and participated at the World’s Premier Mineral Exploration and Mining Convention (PDAC) in Toronto. 

In addition, the Acting Minister of Finance met with Mr. Christopher MacLennan, Assistant Deputy Minister of Global Issues and Development at Global Affairs Canada and expressed gratitudeto Canada’s development assistance in the areas of building national institutions, promoting democracy, human rights, and improving access to education, health and social services across the country on behalf of Afghan government.

In the meeting, the Acting Minister of Finance briefed them on the recent achievements of the Afghan Government under Geneva Mutual Accountability Framework (GMAF) in the areas of anti-corruption efforts, status of national priority programs (NPPs) reforms in the public financial management system, collection of domestic revenue, regional cooperation focused on Afghanistan, especially Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) and the Heart of Asia- Istanbul Process Platforms.

Likewise, the parties discussed further strengthening bilateral relations; women’s empowerment,  mines, mutual cooperation in vocational training, providing scholarship for Afghan students, facilitation of learning and exchange program  for the Afghan civil servants as well as facilitation of targeted training programs for ANDSF.

Furthermore, in a separate meeting with AKDN, the Acting Minister of Finance discussed the importance of AKDN role in helping Afghanistan’s rich culture and history; key investment opportunities in the education and other relevant issues.

“We are committed to supportthe Afghanistan National Archive, and to introduce Afghanistan’s rich history in the world, especially in Canada” said Acting Minister of Finance. “The activities of AKDN-Afghanistan are very essential.AKDN can be a significant friend in helping more Canada-Afghanistan Parliamentary Friendship Groups; which are essential not only for expanding parliamentary relations between the two countries, but also for strengthening people-to-people contacts and extending bilateral cooperation in all fields,” he added.
