Asian Development Bank Loan for Andkhoy-Qaisar Road Project

Press Release – April 07, 2005

Minister of Finance, Dr Anwar-ul-Haq Ahady, today signed an agreement with the Asian Development Bank Deputy Country Director Allan Kelly for $80 million financing to fund reconstruction of 210 km of the primary road between Andkhoy and Qaisar in Faryab province. 

The project will be an important link in the Government’s commitment to completing the 2700 km Afghanistan ring road as quickly as possible.  The ring road and the connecting link roads to neighboring countries will be a major engine of economic growth and will significantly improve accessibility for a large proportion of the Afghan population. 

The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Public Works and is expected to be completed by 2007.  

The Government was able to secure the loan on very favorable terms and looks forward to working with the Asian Development Bank in future to finance important infrastructure projects for the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan.
